As we all know by now, the rules of quarantining are strict (for good reasons), an individual is not allowed to leave their room, not even for a second.

One man unfortunately paid the heavy price of leaving his room for eight seconds.

Like many parts of the world, Taiwan has been quarantining those who travel into the country. This is of course done to ensure that the individuals are healthy, and do not carry the COVID-19 virus into the country where it could spread further.

While it may be tough to spend 14 days stuck in a room, unfortunately that’s the price we have to pay to travel.

A migrant worker from the Phillipines however found that being stuck in a room was exceptionally challenging and thought he’d help the situation by taking a step out of the hotel room he had been quarantining in.

The man was confined to his room in a hotel in Koahsiung City, Taiwan, where the rules state that those under quarantine are not allowed to leave their rooms, not even for a second.

Unfortunately for the Phillipino man, his eight-second journey was caught on CCTV and by the hotel staff who quickly contacted the Department of Health.

Though the unnamed man may have not seen it as a big issue, one step and eight seconds later, he was fined 100,000 New Taiwan dollars (RM14,425).

Taiwan has been widely praised for their approach in containing the pandemic as the country has never had to enact strict lockdowns or resort to drastic restrictions – as some countries have.

However, they are strict with their quarantining rules.

It is unclear why the man decided to step out into the hotel’s hallway especially since the Department of Health had previously stressed that people will be fined for leaving their rooms.

Unfortunately for him, he now knows what those precious eight seconds costs.

If you’re currently undergoing quarantine or going to, please remember to stay in your rooms. Not only will you save your money, you’ll also help to ensure the health and safety of those around you.
