Sometimes we get random aches and pains in our bodies, and most of the time, these are harmless.

One man however was horrified to find that the pain he had been feeling in his chest for some time, was actually a four-inch knife that had been stuck in his chest for over a year!

While walking home from work in Kidapawan City, in the Philippines, in January last year, Kent Ryan Tomao was attacked and stabbed.

However, when the medics treated him, they failed to remove the knife in his chest and according to the Filipino man, they had just sewn up the wound, left the blade behind, gave him painkillers and told him to go home.

“The doctors did not check my wound properly last year so I believe they are partly at fault about what happened,” he said. “They should fix this.”

Now, you’d think that a person would notice a four-inch blade left in their chest, but you’d be surprise because it’s not that simple.

Kent himself only realised that the blade was left –inches away from piercing his lungs – fourteen months later when he was given a job at a mining company and was required to undergo a medical check before beginning.

An x-ray showed the knife pointing upwards and stuck in his rib cage.

“I always wondered why I felt pain in my chest when the weather was cold,” Kent shared. “But I had no idea there is a knife in my chest.”

“The pain was never bad enough to even go to see a doctor,” he added. “I just waited for the pain to pass. Now I’m relieved that I know the real problem.”

The Filipino man will need to have an operation to remove the knife before he can start his new job but unfortunately, he does not have the funds needed to pay for it.

“I can’t start working until I remove this knife but without a job I will not have money to pay for my medical needs,” he said.

Kent is demanding that the doctors who had missed the knife in his chest, remove it so that he can begin his new job as his new employers feel that it would be unsafe for him to work with the knife still in him.

He shared that he will return to the hospital next month to get them to fix the problem they left behind.

The Filipino man does not intend to sue the hospital or the doctor for their negligence, he just wants the knife to be removed so that he can move one with his life and begin his new job.

“I will not press charges, I just want them to remove the knife so I can start working in my new company,” he said.

We hope Kent is able to get the knife removed safely and happily begin working at his new job.
