McDonald’s has become a staple in many Malaysians’ lives, and it’s also part of the local culture thanks to the specialised menu items. Over the many years of the chain being in Malaysia, you’ve probably created tonnes of memories there.
They may be sweet, some a tad bit bitter and others may just be a bit weird lah… but you all have probably spent more time there than average kan?
Well, we asked a few Malaysians what their favourite moments in Mekdi were and here’s what they shared:
#1 “My classmates and I used to burn the midnight oil at the Kampar McDonald’s and rush our assignments there together…”

#2 “I used to have brunch at McDonald’s every weekend with my uncle and auntie until my uncle passed away. We would refill the coffee or tea and sit there, chit chatting from morning til afternoon.”
#3 “My dad would always swing by the drive-thru before we balik kampung or head off on a road trip.”
#4 “It’s where I go to kill time while in between classes masa tuition. Usually, we just beli one sundae cone and stay there forever.”
#5 “I go to Mekdi when I'm unwell and need to eat Bubur Ayam.”
#6 “I attended friends' birthday parties at McD and thought they were super lucky…”
#7 “That was my dating spot when I was studying in college. I used to bring different dates there until the workers there refer to me as a playboy.”
#8 “We love the McDonald’s breakfast. My family sometimes would randomly get up early (or my siblings and I just don’t sleep) so that we can makan the McD breakfast. During the National Breakfast Day, we waited in line too.”

#12 “I used to study there at night and take naps in between because it’s open 24 hours and has free WiFi. So, I practically lived there throughout my Uni years.”

#13 “I LOVE the McDonald’s pies and always try whatever’s new on the menu. So far, my faves are the Banana Pie, Chocolate and Salted Caramel Pie and Karipap Pie.”
#14 “When I watched Germany beat Brazil 7-1 during the 2014 World Cup. The four goals within six minutes is probably the most exhilarating moment ever! We celebrated with throwing fries around. The staff were not very happy though.”
#15 “I remember being part of the crowd at Bukit Bintang when they unveiled the name Mekdi. It was a pretty sunny day, but it felt so iconic—like it was a super historical moment and I witnessed it live.”

Indeed, it was an iconic moment in history last year when they gave the Bukit Bintang McDonald’s outlet the name ‘Mekdi’. The Bukit Bintang branch, launched in 1982, was the first every McDonald’s restaurant in Malaysia.
The Mekdi signage was unveiled in conjunction with Merdeka and this year is no different except the Golden Arches company wants to name TEN more outlets ‘Mekdi’.
However, they need YOUR help to choose these outlets because they want to make sure the honorary title goes to the peoples’ favourite branches.
