Mom Cooked Raya Meal For Relatives Despite Broken Wrist But They Never Showed Up

We always see it in festive season ads when a mother/father cooks and waits for their kids or relatives to return but they never do… and that actually happened in real life.

Twitter user, Lela Jamil recently posted a thread on twitter explaining how her mother cooked a full raya meal for her relatives that said they were visiting despite her broken wrist, but the relatives decided not to turn up.

Mak aku dahlah tak sihat. Pergelangan tangan patah. Tapi mak aku gigihkan jugak masak sebab dah lama tak jumpa saudara. Gembira mak aku masak siap suruh aku balik tolong masak. Tapi aku pulak kerja. Mak aku siap call banyak kali, bila nak sampai. Diorang cakap on the way lagi.

The mother spent all morning cooking and made Mee Udang, Ayam Sambal Bambu, Pengat Durian, Nasi Beriani, Puding Roti, Pulut, Karipap Goreng, Kambing Bakar and more because it’s been awhile since she had last seen her relatives and she was excited to meet them.

Mak aku masak Mee Udang, Ayam Sambal Bambu, Pengat Durian, Nasi Beriani, Puding Roti, Pulut, Karipap Goreng, Kambing Bakar sendiri, and macam macam lah haihh. Banyak mak aku masak. Punya gembira nak menjamu tetamu. Tapi, ini yang jadi. Weh, sumpah aku mental. 😭

But they decided to cancel last minute saying that her house was too far in the forest, so they got lost and we’re close to Negeri Sembilan. So they decided to visit other people’s houses instead.

“If we still have energy after we will come to your house okay?” the relatives said.

Lela also mentioned that her mother happily thought Lela was her relatives when she came home from work but frowned when her mother saw her instead.

"Kalau kami larat nak beraya lagi, kami datanglah rumah mak ndak ya?"

Baik betul bunyinya kan?? Aku balik lepas kerja tadi pun, mak aku ingat aku sedaranya. Gigih dia buka pintu menyambut aku. Muka dia yang bersinar bila buka pintu tu, terus hilang senyuman dia. 😭😭

She said she had to ask her mom to stop waiting for their relatives, and only then they packed the food to refrigerate but had to throw some away because the fridge was already full.

Hmmmm, senyum kelat jelah dia mampu bagi. Sampai pukul 10 malam dia tunggu. Aku terpaksa cakap tegas dengan mak aku, tak payah dah lah tunggu mak, diorang tak nak datang pun. Barulah kitorang kemas makanan makanan tu masuk peti ais. Sampai tak muat peti ais kitorang. 😔

The tweet garnered over 32,000 retweets and netizens are angry and heartbroken over the incident. Some of them even ask for her address to eat the food.

Alhamdulillah, banyak netizen mendoakan kesihatan mak saya. Sampai ada yang dm minta alamat nak perabiskan makanan. Rasa terharu. Baru rasa semalam nak hilang faith in humanity. But my mom always said, tak apa. Biar orang buat kita, jangan kita buat orang. 😭

So the next time you promise someone that you’ll visit their houses, just make sure you show up because you never know how much effort they put into it.
