Do you live and breathe hiking? Are you busy looking up all the best places for an awesome hike of a lifetime? Look no further. Well, look no further than to the East.

Around 200 travel writers were asked to describe their favourite hikes and Malaysia's very own Mount Kinabalu made its mark in Lonely Planet's Epic Hikes of the World guidebook!

Standing at 4,095m, Mount Kinabalu is the highest mountain in Southeast Asia and Malaysia's first Unesco World Heritage Site.

Although scaling the mountain is a relatively short climb, Mount Kinabalu has an extremely street ascent with a 7,874 elevation gain. "Incorporating tangled jungle, granite ridges and barren plateaux, traversing Borneo's highest and holiest mountain is a task that requires nerves—and legs—of steel," writes Lonely Planet.

Those brave enough to make the climb are recommended to hit the slopes from February to April for the best views and to pack thermal base-layers for the cold nights at the peak.

The book also includes other amazing hikes around the world such as the 14 peaks of Snowdonia, the Ring of Steall in Scotland, Angels Landing in Utah, the John Muir trail in California and much more!
