Many graduation stories have been making headlines recently and there’s another boy from Malaysian that has touched our hearts with his story!
Facebook user, Khairul Aiman Hamdan recently shared a story of his friend, Mohammad Afiq Ismail’s effort to bring his parent to the UK to attend his graduation!
Afiq was from Kampung Batu Mengkebang, Kelantan and his father worked in a palm oil farm and herded goats and he used to help take care of the farm and goats.
His parents took care of his disabled brother while working hard to fund his private school with a RM300 monthly fee, but he was forced to leave school due to his PMR results that didn’t meet the minimum requirement (he got 4A, 4B and 1C).
He then realise that he was interested in numbers after he moved to a different school and took up accounting.
He managed to get 9As for his SPM trials and 10As and 1B for his SPM and “never looked back.”
The Public Service Department then offered him a scholarship to study in the UK and his achievement was celebrated by the whole village.
Throughout his three years studying in the UK he worked as a part-time cleaner, determined to save enough money to fly his parents over to attend his graduation!
"My mother and father have never been on an airplane. I wanted to pay for their tickets as a gift for everything they’ve done for me, for helping me finish my studies," Afiq said.
And he recently got First Class Honours in Accounting and Finance and achieved his dream of buying both his parents flight tickets and they got to watch him graduate!
"My whole life, I’ve only wanted to give them the best. Not just a degree, but the valuable experience of watching their kid receiving the degree. I knew I wanted to be with my parents during that time.”
We are definitely proud of his achievements and we hope he can keep making his loving parents proud! Congratulations Afiq!
