One of the staple foods that we love in Malaysia is of course Roti Canai/Roti Paratha. Roti banjir, roti telur, roti sardine, the list goes on and on and on and on!
Now, when it comes to food we love, we’re especially protective.
So when this cooking website called roti canai, an “Asian flat croissant”, you best be sure that netizens all over would be out to demand justice.

Recently, a website called Nyonya Cooking that specializes in recipes for South East Asian dishes (ironically), caused a ripple in the Twitterverse when it was revealed that they had named roti canai as “Asian flat croissant”.
The “croissant’s” page came describes the dish as “a flatbread with Indian origins and is extremely loved in countries like Malaysia and Singapore. Usually eaten with dhal, fish or chicken curry, roti canai is sometimes served sweet with condensed milk, banana or even chocolate cream.”
And of course, netizens from all over the globe were quick to come to roti canai’s defense with many trying to educate the cooking website (who should’ve know tbh…) and some even amused at the portrayal.
We honestly don’t even know whether to laugh or to be angry at the “Asian flatbread croissant”!
