There have been many protests against the new enforcement of RM10,000 compound fines that is set to be effective on 11th March.
Besides protests, there have also been much confusion surrounding the issue.
Now however, we have clarification on the new compound fines.

According to Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador, the new fine is not for all offences of breaking standard operating procedures (SOPs).
The RM10,000 will only be imposed on those who repeatedly breach the movement control order (MCO) and those who cause or trigger the spread of COVID-19.
“We admit that many people misunderstand (the move) and worry about the compound amount of up to RM10,000,” the Inspector-General said. “It is not for all offences, including failure to wear a face mask properly.”
“It is for certain offences, namely for those who are stubborn by committing the offences repeatedly as well as those who violate the SOPs, including (unauthorized) interstate travel, causing the spread of COVID-19,”s he continued.
Companies or corporations that breach SOPs can also be fined up to RM50,000.

The Inspector-General also shared that those who are issued with a RM10,000 compound fine may appeal to the health ministry for a reduction.
“Probably, from a compound fine of RM10,000, they will only need to pay RM200 after the appeal, depending on the reasons given,” he said.
He went on to add that the police would not be accepting payments but will only be involved in enforcing SOPs’ compliance by issuing fines.
