Chocolate is life. We said it.
And if we could, we’d have chocolate for breakfast, lunch, dinner, as a snack and more!
But we’re sure that you’re like us and your parents would never allow you to have chocolate for breakfast because it’s simply “unhealthy”.
However, a new research has shown otherwise.

Researchers at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital have recently been looking into the impacts of having chocolate as part of an individual’s breakfast meal.
Contrary to what our parents made us believe, the researchers found that eating chocolate in the morning does not actually leady to weight gain.
The study was conducted over two weeks and involved 19 postmenopausal women. Some of the participants were asked to consume 100g of milk chocolate within one hour of waking up while others were asked to consume chocolate within one hour of going to bed.
Published in The FASEB Journals, the study’s researchers explained that they reached their conclusion by comparing the weight gain and other measures between women who ate the chocolate and those who had no chocolate intake.

That’s not all.
The study also revealed that having chocolate during the morning hours could actually help with fat burning and reduce blood glucose levels!
Meanwhile, the researchers found that eating chocolate at night could alter an individual’s metabolism the following morning.
In general, the study found that consuming chocolate for breakfast can decrease hunger and desire for sweets throughout the day.

“Our findings highlight that not only ‘what’ but also ‘when’ we eat can impact physiological mechanisms involved in the regulation of body weight,” neuroscientist Frank A.J. L. Scheer explained when discussing the findings.
Though the study does boost our happiness for future breakfast choices, the researchers noted that their study was limited to a small group of postmenopausal females.
The study’s authors shared that further research involving men and younger women would be needed to come to a stronger conclusion on whether we should start swapping our breakfast cereal for a bar of chocolate.
They also acknowledged that future studies may be able to distinguish if the benefits seen in the results are consequences of the rewarding effect of chocolate.
