A day of joy unfortunately turned into a day of sorrow when a bride passed away from a heart attack after crying excessively during one of her wedding ceremonies.

Recently in Odisha’s Sonepur district in India, a newlywed bride collapsed after crying excessively and suffering a massive heart attack during her “bidaai” ceremony.

The “bidaai” ceremony is usually held at the end of all the wedding celebrations as it marks the farewell of the bride from her home. During this ritual, relatives of the bride will shower the couple with blessings for their new life together and is seen as the most emotional part of the wedding.

During the preparations for the “bidaai” ceremony, Gupteswari Sahoo who was better known as Rosy, was so overcome by her emotions that she was crying inconsolably when she suddenly fainted and collapsed on the ground.

Family members and relatives of the newlywed couple who were present at the ceremony tried to wake the bride by spraying water on her face but she did not gain consciousness.

When all attempts failed, she was immediately taken to the Dunguripallu Community Health Centre (CHC) but was declared dead by doctors.

The doctors later confirmed that Rosy had passed away due to cardiac failure. Her body was over to her family after the postmortem.

“She fainted during the bidaai ceremony and the doctors declared her dead at the hospital,” Ramesh Sahu, a resident of Julunda village shared. “This is a very unfortunate incident. May God give strength to the bereaved families of the couple to bear the massive tragedy.”

According to another resident, Rosy had been in much distress prior to her wedding as she had lost her father a few months before that.

We never knew that crying too much could cause a heart attack.

Our thoughts are with Rosy’s loved ones during this sad and tragic time.

Rest in peace Rosy.
