Our attendance in class is crucial in college or university, and though some of us cheat by asking our classmates to help us sign in for lectures, it's technically impossible for students in this uni!
We've previously wrote about University Technology Petronas (UTP) using QR code to take their students' attendance, but we recently found out that the uni uses face recognition technology as well! Next level!
And if you're thinking about fooling the system and getting your friends to take your attendance using your photo, don't!
According to one of the students from the uni, the tech “recognises a face using multidimensional systems at different locations of the face”. Plus, “once the face is recognised, it matches with the database and a picture is taken everytime for attendance.”
The system also requires your thumbprint while it scans your face. It seems like there simply is no way to fool this system!
The system has been in use since January this year, but is only applicable for post-grad students for now. We asked UTP students if they enjoy having the tech, and they hilariously answered, “No way.”
Would you want this technology in your university?
