What time is it? It’s almost time to reunite at East High…and it looks like the most popular girl in class will indeed be making her return!

Disney+ recently confirmed that High School Musical: The Musical: The Series will be returning for Season 3. However, at the time, it was not confirmed if Olivia Rodrigo would be returning to set since she has been focusing on her debut album Sour.

Fans were concerned that Olivia’s career as a singer may stop her character, Nini, from appearing in Season 3. But worry not!

Olivia herself confirmed in an interview with Los Angeles Times, that she will be making a comeback in Season 3, shutting down rumors that she may leave the show following her rapid success as a pop star.

Not to forget what she told The Guardian back in May 2021, that she’s “committed to HSM for two more years”.

As exciting as this confirmation may be, it’s got to be awkward for both Olivia and co-star Joshua Bassett, given that many of Rodrigo’s breakup tracks are rumored to be about her on-screen (and irl) love interest..

Joshua even confirmed the two have not spoken since the release of Olivia’s “Drivers License” in January 2021.

As the professional actors they are, we’re hoping that they can work through it when they return to set, since Nini and Ricky’s romance is a huge part of the show. We just ship them so much!

There is no official word yet on what the High School Musical: The Musical: The Series season 3 musical will be, however, it appears that it could be Frozen.

In an announcement that season 3 will come out in 2022, the phrase "love is an open door" appeared and with the caption: 'We already have chills" complete with snowflake emojis. Oooof could it be a Frozen theme??

Tim Federle, the showrunner of HSMTMTS previously told Hollywood Life: "Choosing the musical for the show is hard because there are so many possibilities. You can go way, way off, you can go High School Musical 3, you can create a new musical."

As of now, no official announcement has been shared on the release date, but it has been confirmed that filming will start in January 2022, so hopefully the new season will drop sometime in 2022 because we can’t wait any longer!

Stay tuned, folks!
