Many of us grew up watching or reading Doraemon and while the series has brought us much happiness, we unfortunately have some sad news for you.
Doraemon’s original voice actor Tomita Kosei has passed away at the age of 84.

According to his agency, the voice actor passed away from a stroke on 27th September.
“Our company’s Tomita Kosei (age of death, 84) passed away on September 27 in the second year of Reiwa (2020) due to a stroke,” a statement read.

Tomita first voiced Doraemon in 1973 when the anime series debuted.
The voice actor has also lent his voice to over 50 anime series and films including Astro Boy and Detective Conan, and has even had voice roles in Kung Fu Panda and the Japanese-dubbed While You Were Sleeping.
In 2009, Tomita was honoured with the Merit Award at the 3rd Seiyu Awards – an annual ceremony held in Japan to recognize voice acting talents.
