Everyone has a rebellious stage in life and decide not to listen to our parents but loving them more actually make them live longer.

A study shows that parents have a lower mortality risk when their children listen and show gratitude towards them while the ones that don’t have a higher mortality risk.

“Strong intergenerational relationships play a protective role in the health and well-being of the aging population,” said Mengting Li, a researcher at Rutgers University.

The concept of filial piety was assessed and includes discrepancy in respect, greet, care, obey, make happy, and financial support. However only caring, respect and gratitude plays a part in increasing or lowering the risk of death.

The study was conducted on 3.021 Chinese Americans participants with an average age of 73 and have at least one child.

“Educational programs could focus on fostering children’s attitude and behavior to provide more respect and greeting for aging parents to strengthen the family protection role,” the study concluded.

So yes if you want your parents to live longer, start listening to them and show them respect!
