Another long weekend is upon us and we’re sure that many of you would have most likely made plans to go on a holiday or to balik kampung to visit your loved ones.

If you’re planning to travel via Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) or klia2, Malaysia Airports is advising passengers to plan your travels well ahead and arrive at least four hours before your expected departure time.

The airports recently faced massive technical and system disruptions. While the network has been stabilized since then, passengers have still been advised to arrive early due to the upcoming long weekend.

Malaysia Airports released a statement that noted that they foresee higher-than-usual passenger traffic movements at all their airports especially KLIA, from Friday (30th August) to Monday (2nd September).

“We are expecting to see an average of 160,000 daily passenger traffic movements at KLIA during this period,” the statement read.

Passengers have been advised to not only be at the airport four hours early but to also check –in online earlier through the airlines’ websites.

According to the statement, 1,000 volunteer staff who have been put in place since the start of the network failure, will remain in force through this super peak travel period.

“We remain committed to ensuring that the passenger journey is seamless,” the statement noted.

Besides arriving early and checking-in online, passengers have also been advised to take note on the daily airspace closure due to the National Day rehearsals and celebrations.

The airspace will be closed between 9.00am to 10.30am from 27 to 31st August.

As around 85 flights are expected to be affected by this closure, passengers should check on their flight’s latest schedule from their respective airlines.

Malaysia Airports also noted that the teams manning the facilities at both KLIA and klia2 have been put on high alert to ensure traffic management, car park availability, washroom cleanliness and Aerotrain operations among others are well managed during this peak season.

To those of you who are just picking up or dropping off someone, the Malaysia Airports have also advised drivers to be mindful and adhere strictly to the 2-minute pick up and drop off time at the kerbside. This of course, is to avoid traffic congestion.

The statement ends with a reminder to passengers to:

  1. Please arrive at least four hours before your flight departure time.
  2. Do utilise public transport as much as possible in getting to the airport. It only takes about 30 minutes by KLIA Express to get to KUL.
  3. Please be mindful of traffic rules within the airport area. We have ample parking spaces at both terminals as well as a safe and convenient waiting area and 30-minute free parking facility at the LTCP.
  4. Do utilise the available automated processes whenever possible such as web check-in and self baggage drop.

Once again, if you’re travelling over this long weekend, stay safe and be mindful of your timing with arriving at the airports. You wouldn’t want to miss your flight! Share this with someone who’ll be travelling this weekend!

Safe travels!
