We, Malaysians, LOVE our food. Nasi lemak, roti canai, char kuay teow, nasi kandar, curry laksa, satay… you name it, we love it and we’re definitely ready to defend it with our lives.

Now, Malaysian food has made us proud once again on the World’s 50 Best Foods list!

Recently, CNN released their annual “World’s 50 Best Foods” list and Penang’s Assam Laksa made it into the top 10!

Coming in at number seven, the spicy noodle soup sits amongst others such as Germany’s hamburgers, Japan’s sushi, and Mexico’s chocolate in the top tier of the list.

“We’ve scoured the planet for what we think are 50 of the most delicious foods ever created,” CNN wrote about their annual list.

“Poached, flaked mackerel, tamarind, chili, mint, lemongrass, onion, pineapple… one of Malaysia’s most popular dishes is an addictive spicy-sour fish broth with noodles (especially great when fused with ginger), that’ll have your nose running before the spoon even hits your lips,” the list described our beloved Assam Laksa.

Coming in first on the list however is Thailand’s Massaman curry that’s made with beef or mutton, potatoes, onions, curry paste and a mix of spices.

In second place is Italy’s Neapolitan pizza and in third is Mexico’s chocolate. Fourth place belongs to Japan’s sushi while China’s pecking duck and Germany’s hamburgers come in at number five and six respectively.

While Penang’s Assam Laksa comes in at seven, Thailand’s tom yum goon, ice cream and Gabon’s chicken muamba rounds off the list at number eight, nine and 10.
