Taking a flight may be one of the scariest things to some, and for good reason.
With so many cases, movies and series about plane malfunctions, it’s only natural to feel that fear while being on a plane.
Unfortunately for a group of passengers, their fears were realised when the plane’s emergency exit door flew off just as they were about to take off!

A small Boutique Airlines plane was in the midst of taking off from Minneapolis, USA, when its passengers noticed that the emergency exit door flew off.
The shocked passengers of the eight-seater plane experienced the nightmare scenario while on the runway of the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport.
Fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident and the flight was stopped before it took off into the skies.

Speaking to WUPM, a passenger named Tom Yon spoke about the terrifying situation saying:
“We were just abut to take off probably going, I don’t know 100 miles (160km) per hour, and the door just flew off, a loud bang, and the door flew off and the noise and the wind and everything.
I didn’t even see my bag get sucked out of the plane. I got it right here, this bag right here, got sucked out of the plane. They gave it to me about an hour after take-off.”
Tom Yon stressed that the whole situation was unpleasant and petrifying.
The experience “was scary, it was scary,” he said. “If there would have been a person sitting on the plane with a baby on their lap, I don’t know what would have happened.”

Mike Parra, another passenger on the flight told KBJR 6 that “It happened so fast, and it was so unusual, we’re all looking at each other like ‘did that just really happen?”
The passenger also shared that his daughter could have been seriously injured on this flight saying: “I’m sitting there looking at my daughter hanging out this door. Except for the safety strap, she would’ve been on the floor.”

After the incident, the Metropolitan Airports Commission officials assessed the situation and confirmed that the flight never took off the ground and the plane returned to its gate at the airport.
Though the passengers did not suffer any injuries and were safe, the airline was criticized for not taking immediate action.
In response, the airlines shared that the two pilots of the plane had failed to complete a pre-flight checklist and announced that their employment contracts were terminated as a result.
