While we’ve been playing our part by staying in our homes during the MCO, the frontliners have been risking their lives and sacrificing their time to ensure that the public is safe.

Now, with the Recovery Movement Control Order officially in place, these frontliners are finally able to spend some time with their own families.

With the RMCO in place, roadblocks on major highways across the country have been lifted and police officers everywhere are finally able to take a breath and take a rest.

Sergeant Azahar Ayub who has been working tirelessly for the past 85 days during the MCO, is sighing in relief at finally being able to spend some time with his family and celebrate his youngest son’s 11th birthday.

The officer who has been working as part of the Traffic Division under the Kota Setar District Police Headquarters, was extremely glad when the two roadblocks in the district were officially lifted at 12am on 10th June.

According to the sergeant, his youngest son Mohd Aniq Hanafi Azahar who is due to celebrate his 11th birthday on Friday, could not stop calling his father as soon as he knew that the roadblocks would be lifted.

“My son has been busy asking me for his gift,” the officer said. “I am the only one who hasn’t given him a gift for his birthday yet. His elder brothers have all bought gifts for him online already and they’ve been delivered to the house.”

“That’s why he keeps calling me to ask what I would be giving him for his birthday,” he added. I haven’t told him what I’ve gotten him yet as I want it to be a surprise. Usually, I’ll buy him a birthday cake.”

The sergeant took the time to thank his fellow frontliners who had celebrated his birthday on 28th May, while they were manning the roadblock at the Plaza Tol Alor Setar Selatan.

He also expressed his joy and luck at having received a cake from a nurse from the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital who had specifically stopped at the roadblock to gift the officers the cake with the words “TQ Frontliners” on it, to thank them for their service in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the sergeant, in all his 34 years of working on the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) force, Op COVID has been the most challenging task ever and it will be a memory that he carries throughout his life.
