Just step outside and you’ll notice one consistent thing in the air that’s been around for over a week now, the haze.

A word of caution, you’ll want to brace yourself for continuous haze… until mid-September at least.

According to the Meteorological Department deputy director-general (operations), Muhammad Helmi Abdullah, the haze which has led to moderate air quality readings in several places around Malaysia, is expected to clear after mid-September.

Bernama reported that “this estimation was based on the change in wind direction and frequent rainfall expected between the third week of September and October during the southwest monsoon shift.”

The deputy director-general added that as long as the southwest monsoon winds were still blowing and the forest fire hotspots in Kalimantan and Sumatera remained, we will still experience the haze in Malaysia.

The public has been advised to reduce outdoor activities and avoid undertaking open burning during this time.

You should also be sure to increase your water intake (at least 2 liters per day), wear a mask, avoid smoking and frequently wash your hands and face after any outdoor activities. If you’re starting to feel unwell, visit a doctor to get checked.
