Just a couple of days ago, we talked about the heroic acts of a group of students in Terengganu who rescued a beached dolphin.
Now it looks like fate has taken a sad turn.
According to recent reports, a dolphin was found dead on the beaches of Pantai Tanjung Gelam near Kuala Nerus and is presumed to be the same one that was previous rescued.
Heartbreaking.

The dolphin’s carcass was found by Ahmad Nasrul Hazim Ahmad Rahimi and his two friends.
The 14-year-old said that he and his friends had stumbled upon the dead dolphin yesterday and had taken pictures of it to show their families.
“But when I returned this morning, it was not there anymore, “ he said.

When beached dolphin was first discovered, the group of marine students who rescued it noticed a small cut in its head. Thankfully the dolphin eventually managed to swim back to sea.
Rantau Abang’s Fisheries Research Institute (FRI) marine mammal branch chief Mohd Tamimi Ali Ahmad confirmed that the dolphin found was indeed the same dolphin that had found itself beached before being rescued.
According to the chief, the carcass has been disposed with the help of villagers following standard operating procedures by burying it.
"The dolphin had already suffered injuries when it was found beached the first time and could not withstand the strong tides of the monsoon season to return to the school it probably got separated from.
"Perhaps it suffered internal organs injuries caused by food that could not be digested such as a fish bone or plastic. Dolphins would also naturally swim to land if they are about to die, ” he said.

The branch chief also added that no post-mortem was conducted on the carcass as the mammal had been dead for over 24 hours and its internal organs had already begun to rot.
RIP Dolphin. You will be missed.
