We have mixed feelings about this.

Scientists at University Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) are conducting a study to detect the presence of paranormal beings in humans using a machine apparently capable of observing changes in a person’s electric field.

Leading six other researchers, the head researcher, Prof Madya Dr Yohan Kur Niawan from Indonesia, began his research two years ago and has recently bought an RM15,000 machine shipped from the United States to complete his study. Dr Yohan claims that the machine can detect electrical movements in his participants when they undergo ‘exorcisms’.

According to Dr Yohan, “this device can help us scientifically prove the existence of jinns (supernatural creatures in early Arabian and later Islamic mythology and theology) present in the human body by measuring the changes in electric fields”. He added that “based on studies, three energy points are consistently associated with the presence of a jinn, which are at the head, neck, and chest. If one of these three points show up as red in the machine, it could mean that a jinn is present”.

Currently, Dr Yohan’s study is still in its early stages and the machine’s accuracy rate is between 80% to 90%. The study may very well go on for two more years as measurements of the participants’ auras, breathing, electromagnetic energy and heart rate have to be done carefully.

Dr Yohan hopes that his research will contribute towards alternative medicine treatments for patients who suffer from mysterious illnesses as well as being able to distinguish whether or not a patient really is plagued by jinns.
