Malaysian YouTube couple Sugu Pavithra are making us raise our glasses once again as the couple have just been awarded with a brand new title, Ipoh City icons!

A title that’s given exclusively to Ipoh-born individuals for their success, it’s without a doubt that the couple has indeed earned the Ipoh City icon title as they’ve not only made their mark in Ipoh and Malaysia, but in the world as well.
According to Ipoh mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin, the Ipoh City Council (MBI) will recognize S. Pavithra as this year’s Ipoh City Icon.

Famously known for their cooking videos on YouTube, Pavithra and her husband M. Sugu were both awarded the title by the mayor who noted that the couple’s success should be an example to others.
“She is among 10 others who are already on our list for the title,” the mayor said about the Buntong-born Pavithra.
“We were supposed to hold the ceremony during this year’s Ipoh City Day, but it coincided with the movement control order (MCO),” the mayor added. “Therefore, it will be awarded to them officially next year on May 7.”

“We will accord recognition to every Ipoh-born, like Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh previously. MBI is honest in its recognition of Pavithra because she is well known and many are now following their cooking recipes,” he told a press conference today,” the mayor said.
The mayor went on to add that the city council is currently reviewing other Ipoh-born individuals who are deserving of the “Ipoh City icon” title.
“We plan to give the award to at least 100 people who have made Ipoh proud of their talents and success,” he said.
“The full list will be revealed later,” he continued. “It is safe to say that this list will include those from various backgrounds, be it in entrepreneurship, the arts, government service or others.”

“I want to thank all those who have supported us and given us words of encouragement all this while,” Pavithra said while thanking MBI for the recognition.
