Many Malaysians have been showing their appreciation for the new government by showering the Prime Mininster and his wife, Tun Siti Hasmah, with gifts. However, as much as the gestures are appreaciated, Tun Siti wants us to stop sending gifts to them!

Tun M’s daughter, Marina Mahathir, posted on Facebook with a message from her mother saying that Tun M and her has been receiving a lot of well wishes and gifts but “the rule in the Pakatan Harapan government is that no politician is allowed to receive any gifts other than flowers and food”.

“As modest as the gifts might be, they do take up a lot of space,” Marina also explained. “My parents are not moving into Sri Perdana but instead are going to continue living at their own home. It's comfortable but really does not have space for any more stuff. So, she seeks your understanding to please not send anything for her, even though Raya is coming. Instead she requests that you please make donations to any charity of your choice. That would please her very much.”

Marina ended the post with a “Thank you!” accompanied by a photo of Tun M and Tun Siti’s first time back at Putrajaya!
