As ice cream lovers, we know that the beloved dessert can come in all shapes, sizes and flavours, and we’d still eat it.
But a new ice cream topping that’s making waves, is making us take a step back to reevaluate our lives.
That new topping? Soy sauce and spring onions.
Now, we’re used to having soy sauce in dishes or even as a dip for sushi and more, but having it on soft serve is definitely throwing us for a loop.
And spring onions on top of the soy sauce? We have many questions.

In Japan however, this unique soft serve topping is very real and is reported to have been modeled after the flavours of a bowl of udon noodles.
Kagawa, Japan, is well-known for its delicious and heart-warming bowls of udon, so one restaurant owner decided to recreate the dish into a dessert.
The soft serve which has a similar taste to udon, is topped with a soy sauce drizzle and freshly chopped spring onions to give customers a taste of the savoury dish.

Those who have tried the quirky ice cream have had mixed reactions to the unusual combination.
While some commented that the soft serve is surprisingly good and tastes exactly like a bowl of udon noodles, others share that the bizarre combination is a turn off.

Ngl, we’re definitely skeptical about this soy sauce and spring onion dessert but we’d give it a try if it were available in Malaysia.
