According to Deadline, SpongeBob SquarePants’ trusty sidekick, a spinoff series based around Patrick is in the works over at Nickelodeon.
If you’re hoping to see what antics Patrick would be up to in this new series, prepare for some changes as The Patrick Star Show is set to take a “deep dive” into the beloved sidekick’s life and his family through the format of a late-night talk show, hosted by Patrick.

But which beloved Bikini Bottom character would appear in this new series besides Patrick? According to Variety, that detail has not been officially confirmed but a number of new actors are set to play wider roles in the “SpongeBob underwater universe.”
“SpongeBob cast members are expected to make occasional appearances, reprising their roles,” Deadline reports.

The Patrick Star Show marks the second spinoff of the widely loved franchise. Last year, it was announced that an animated prequel series revolving around a 10-year-old SpongeBob and his friends during a summer at a sleep-away camp would be making its way to our screens.
Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years is expected to premiere sometime next year.
“When our younger characters first meet in Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years, there is an instant chemistry among them that could only be conveyed by the incredible talents who have lived and breathed them every day for the last two decades,” said Ramsey Naito, Executive Vice President of Animation Production and Development at Nickelodeon.
“We are so excited to have the original SpongeBob cast join our new series, which is incredibly inventive and funny, and visually stunning in CG.”

Kamp Koral and The Patrick Star Show are reportedly not the only spinoffs that we’ll see from the SpongeBob universe. According to reports, Nickelodeon is seemingly keen on expanding the universe with execs considering “an original story about SpongeBob and Patrick, or maybe tell a Sandy Cheeks stand-alone story, or even a Plankton solo outing.”
“That’s out Marvel Universe,” said Nickelodeon’s president Brian Robbins last year. “You have this amazing show that’s run for almost 20 years.”
If you’re wondering when we’ll be able to see Patrick Star starring in his own series, currently there is no official release date but rest assured, we’ll keep you updated.
