On one solemn day in 1994, Wang Mingqing and his wife were selling fruit on a busy street in Chengdu, when suddenly they found that their daughter had vanished.
Wang did everything he could think of to find his daughter, including contacting the police, putting up missing person signs on the streets and searching the city’s children shelters and hospitals. Sadly, his little girl was nowhere to be found.

Without giving up, Wang became a driver for a ride-hailing company three years ago, hoping that this new job would increase the odds of him finding his daughter. While working, Wang gave each of his passengers a card with information about his lost daughter, telling them to share it on WeChat.

Since Wang didn’t have a photo of his lost daughter, he used a picture of his other daughter when she was young on the cards, explaining that the two looked similar. Wang estimated that he had handed out cards to about 5,000 passengers.

The cards caused Wang’s desperate search to make headlines across China last year. Talking to a reporter about his loss, Wang said “My biggest wish right now is that someday my daughter will sit down in my car, and shout ‘Dad!’”, adding that if he saw her, he would say “I’m sorry, Daddy didn’t live up to his responsibilities as a father”.
A police sketch artist was moved by Wang’s story and decided to produce an image of what Wang’s daughter might look like today.
Then, a break in the case occurred earlier this year when the drawing circulated on social media and eventually found its way to Kang Ying, a 27-year-old mother living over 3,000km away from Chengdu, who couldn’t deny that the image looked a lot like her.

According to Kang, her adoptive family told her that she was found on the side of the road in Chengdu as a child. She grew up in Sichuan town not knowing that her birth parents were living just 20km away and searching for her constantly.
Kang had always been searching for her biological family. When she saw the sketch, she contacted Wang and went to the police for a DNA test. Last Sunday, the results of the test confirmed that Kang was indeed Wang’s daughter, Wang Qifeng.
Kang immediately made plans to fly to Chengdu to reunite with her long lost family.
After finding out that he was finally going to see his daughter after losing her for over two decades, Wang burst into tears.
The father and mother were reunited with their long lost daughter that they had not seen in 24 years, on Tuesday afternoon in Chengdu. According to media reports, Kong’s first words to her parents were: “Dad, Mom, I’ve come home!”
