It’s definitely the start of something new as this time the series will have a totally different focus than that of the movies.
The series will follow a group of teenagers who are putting on a production of High School Musical. The story follows Ricky who auditions for the musical to win back his ex.
Things take a turn for the teens as Ricky’s ex’s new boyfriend is also auditioning for the role of Troy Bolton.
Here’s your first look at the movie!
Set to premiere on Disney+, the series will make its way to our screens on 12th November!
Speaking to People, creator and showrunner Tim Federle is excited for fans to see the new take on an iconic franchise.
“Doing theater is all about finding your tribe,” he said. “I can’t wait till the world meets the crazy-talented new tribe of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.”
“There aren’t a lot of writers who get to launch a new streaming platform like Disney+,” Tim added. “It’s a privilege to create a love letter to fans of the original High School Musical movies while also making an irreverent, feel-good musical for a new generation.”
“We are truly excited about this extremely talented cast and the fresh and contemporary take on this globally beloved franchise,” said senior vice president of content for Disney+, Agnes Chu.
“From the music and dance, to the character and hilarious meta references, there is something here for fans of the originals, as well as people who are new to East High. It’s going to be an unforgettable viewing experience for Disney+ subscribers,” she added.
