Tributes! Are you ready to return to Panem?

Scholastic has announced that The Hunger Games author, Suzanne Collins is set to return to Panem with a brand new prequel novel!

The yet-to-be-titled prequel will be set 64 years before Katniss Everdeen first shouted the words, “I volunteer as tribute.”

According to the author, the upcoming book will take place during the “Dark Days” as Panem struggles to get back on its feet following a failed rebellion.

“With this book, I wanted to explore the state of nature, who we are, and what we perceive is required for our survival,” Suzanne said. “The reconstruction period ten years after the war, commonly referred to as the Dark Days – as the country of Panem struggles back to its feet – provides fertile ground for characters to grapple with these questions and thereby define their views of humanity.”

While fans of The Hunger Games should not expect to see Katniss, Peeta Mellark or Gale Hawthorne in the upcoming books – as its set in an era before they were born – Scholastic has not divulged any more information about the novel or new characters we will meet.

Scholastic Trade Publishing President, Ellie Berger, stated: “Suzanne Collins is a master at combining brilliant storytelling, superb world building, breathtaking suspense, and social commentary. We are absolutely thrilled – as both readers and publishers – to introduce the devoted fans of the series and a new audience to an entirely new perspective on this modern classic.”

Lionsgate studio, who produced the Hunger Games saga; are already discussing a film adaptation of the upcoming prequel novel.

“As the proud home of the Hunger Games movies, we can hardly wait for Suzanne’s next book to be published,” Lionsgate chairman, Joe Drake noted. “We’ve been communicating with her during the writing process and we look forward to continuing to work closely with her on the movie.”
