Variety has learnt from sources that the actor has been cast in one of the series’ lead roles.

The nature of Will’s role has been kept under wraps - much like most of the series, and unfortunately Amazon and the actor’s reps have yet to comment on the casting.

The big-budget adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved masterpiece will also see Australian actress Markella Kavenagh joining the cast, as was reported back in July.

The Lord of the Rings series is currently being developed by writers JD Payne and Patrick McKay. Game of Thrones alum Bryan Cogman is also on board as a consulting producer with J.A. Bayona set to direct multiple episodes.

Not much is known about the upcoming series but its official Twitter account did hint that the series could be exploring the Second Age of Middle Earth which was when the Rings of Power – including Sauron’s One Ring; were first forged.
