From the Seven Kingdoms to Middle-earth, it looks like the highly anticipated Lord of the Rings series has just found its main villain!
Best known for his role on Game of Thrones as Benjen Stark – brother of Ned Stark and uncle to Robb, Sansa, Arya, Bran, Rickon and Jon Snow; Joseph Rawle has been confirmed to be joining another world of fantasy, this time one that’s set in Middle-earth.
While Joseph’s watch may have ended on GoT when he sacrificed himself to save Jon, it looks like the fantasy world is not done with him just yet.
Deadline reports that the actor has signed on take on a new, villainous role on the upcoming LoTR series.
Not only will Joseph be playing a villain, he’ll be playing the series’ lead villain, Oren, though details of the role is still being kept under wraps.
The actor will be starring opposite Will Poulter’s young hero, Beldor; and Australia actress Markella Kavenagh, who’ll be playing the female lead.

The first episodes of the series will be helmed by Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’s J.A. Bayona with production set to begin in 2020 from writers JD Payne and Patrick McKay.
Details about the upcoming series are being tightly sealed and heavily guarded but what is known is that the story will be set in the Second Age of Middle-earth – before all the events of the Lord of the Rings.
“J.R.R Tolkien created one of the most extraordinary and inspiring stories of all time, and as a lifelong fan, it is an honour and a joy to join this amazing team.” said the director. “I can’t wait to take audiences around the world to Middle-earth and have them discover the wonders of the Second Age, with a never before seen story.”
We can’t wait to see Benjen Stark, oops, we mean Joseph Mawle as a villain in the Lord of the Rings! We’re sure he’ll be great in his role!
