A Milan-based restaurant does just that. The restaurant offers free sushi to people who have a bit of influence on Instagram!

Owners of the "This Is Not A Sushibar" in Milan, Matteo and Tomaso Pittarello, are very well aware of the potential of social media to gain exposure. The duo are more than willing to give away free sushi if it means that more people are aware of their restaurant.
At the restaurant, diners have the option to pay by cash, card or… Instagram followers. It's a pretty simple idea really: the more followers you have, the more you can eat without having to spend a dime!

Of course, not everyone is a social media influencer with over hundreds of thousands of followers. But at this restaurant, even having 1,000 followers on Instagram will guarantee some free grub.
So how many followers does a diner need to get a free meal? Only over 100,000.

Customers who have between 1,000 and 5,000 followers will enjoy a free plate of sushi plate while customers with 5,000 to 10,000 followers will get two free plates. For those with 10,000 to 50,000 followers, they’ll enjoy four free dishes, and those with 50,000 to 100,000 followers will get eight dishes free! And if you want a completely free lunch or dinner, all you need is 100,000 Instagram followers or more!

However, just showing the restaurant your follower count isn't enough. Diners must also publish a post to the Instagram account and tag @thisisnotasushibar and include #thisisnotasushibar! The free food can only be redeemed after showing the published post at the counter.
The Pittarello brothers said, "Today, advertising on channels such as social networks and, in particular, Instagram, is what works best." The brothers explained that the objective of their innovative payment method is twofold. By involving Instagrammers, both big and small business will be able to receive bigger and better exposure. At the same time, customers will also be able to feel invested in the project.
