A bowl of Japanese curry can warm the soul and if you’ve ever wanted to master the art of curry making, there’s now a Curry College that you can enroll in!
Japanese curry lovers, if you’ve ever thought about taking your love for one of Japan’s most famous dishes to the next level, the country’s only higher education institution is currently looking for the next generation of curry-making pros!
Hosted by the Curry General Research Center – a Japanese institution dedicated to studying the culutural influence and adaptations of the popular dish; the Curry College offers a rigorous eight-month training course on the ins-and-outs- of curry.
The training course will include a variety of modules including demonstrative classes, business logistics of running a curry shop, and even the history of Japanese curry.
Since its inception in 2014, the Curry College has witnessed over 1,500 students enroll and graduate from its yummy programme.
Students who wish to be a part of this unique college have three different courses they can choose from – the General course, the Curry Scholar course and the Curry Audited Scholar course.
In the General course, students will be able to learn everything they can about the popular dish. Whether you’re a pro, amateur chef or have only made curry from a box, this course is a hybrid of online webinars and in-person lectures.
If you’re thinking of getting more in-depth – whether as a restaurant onwner or as an academic, the Curry Scholar course and the Curry Audited Scholar course is the way to go with its smaller, but very focused, scope of classes.
The Curry Scholar course will consist of research on curry while the Curry Audited Scholar course only offers in-person lectures.
If you’re wondering if you’d come out with an official degree after enrolling in the Curry College, unfortunately, you don’t.
According to SoraNews24, “Curry College is more like an intensive training unit for those who are happiest spending their working hours with the complex, rich spices which make up a delicious plate of Japanese curry”.
Though you may not come out with a degree, there are still many interesting opportunities offered by the course including a short term study abroad program at New Delhi’s Institute of Culinary Arts and the chance to network with the country’s leading curry industry members.
Most importantly, you’ll come out with unforgettable (and delicious) curry-making skills!

Competition is tight however as only five students in total would be accepted.
We’d definitely be interested in learning how to make the perfect Japanese curry if we could! Just thinking about it is making us hungry already!
