What were you doing back in 2010? If you had been job-seeking back then, you’ll notice that there are jobs you’re familiar with now didn’t exist!
One of the main reasons for this is because of the rise of Industry 4.0 (the fourth Industrial Revolution), which sees a trend of automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies such as IoT (Internet of Things), cloud computing, and even artificial intelligence.
Sure, we don’t have flying cars in 2020 (still waiting…), but here are the jobs you wouldn’t have found 10 years ago:
#1 Social Media Manager

Most people just use social media for fun, but some are getting paid to manage FB/Twitter/LinkedIn/IG accounts! They’re basically responsible for curating, monitoring, moderating and responding to audiences, while also creating their own shareable videos and images for brands… like us!
#2 SEO Specialist

Googling—who doesn’t do it? Whether it’s “Best nasi lemak in KL” or “how to tell if I have Wuhan virus”, you’ll get your list of recommended websites to click through and get your answers.
To make sure that their website appears on the top of the list search results, a Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) Specialist implements relevant changes to the websites so that they’re optimised for search engines!
It’s an important job, especially when websites rely on traffic for revenue.
#3 App Developer

There are so many apps today, and they’re so helpful, you’ll feel like you’ll get lost without them (literally too—we’ve relied on Waze/Google Maps for travelling!).
An app developer creates and tests apps on mobile phones, computers and other electronic devices. They work in teams alongside graphic artists and software experts to these apps. It’s also their responsibility to ensure that the app is bug-free before it’s launched.
#4 UX Writers

Have a flair with writing and an interest in tech? Then you could be a User Experience (UX) writer. Unlike a normal copywriter, a UX writer would be to create text that will help users use the app better. They need to focus on understanding user behaviour and pain points to create engaging experiences.
Like an app developer, they won’t be working alone—they collaborate closely with the designer and other members of the UX team.
#5 Automation Engineer

An automation engineer’s job is to design, program, simulate and test machinery or processes which are meant to complete specific tasks.
A few examples are robots/AI (artificial intelligence) used in packaging, vehicle manufacturing and food processing. They’re the ones who come up with detailed design specifications and troubleshoot control systems too!
#6 Data Scientist

This job requires to be good at analysing large amounts of data! It’s an interdisciplinary field, which is basically a fancy way of saying you must be good at multiple things. In this case, it’s maths, statistics and computers.
You’ll be solving business-related problems using data-driven techniques, such as helping brands figure out consumer behaviours.
#7 Cybersecurity Forensics Expert

Cyber crime has always existed, but with the internet becoming so prevalent in our daily lives, cybersecurity forensics experts are now in demand. They’re responsible for finding and analysing potential evidence of cybercrimes on IT equipment—this includes your laptops and mobile phones.
Once they’re done, they’ll work with law enforcement officials and regulators so that they can pursue criminal charges. So, it’s almost like you’re a detective—except your crime scene is within a computer.
