In Indonesia, a name is not only believed to be sacred but is also believed to carry hopes and prayers. Hence, parents almost always choose meaningful names for their kids.
For “Google’s” name, his father, Andi said that he first got the idea to name his son after the tech giant when his wife was seven months pregnant.
According to Andi, he was also looking at Microsoft, iPhone, iOS, Windows and more as options for his son.
“From religion, we considered the names of the prophet, and from the more usual names,” Andi said to Kumparan. “We also considered ‘Albar Dirgantara Putra.”
“But when he was finally born, something in my heart told me the name, ‘Albar Dirgantara Putra’ wouldn’t suit him,” he added. “At last, I took the name from the technology category.”

But it seems that not everyone in his family was on board with the name, Google, including his wife and father.
Andi’s father objected his new grandson’s name and asked Andi to at least give Google a last name for administrative purposes. However his son refused to add a second name as he believed that the essence of the name would be altered if he did so.
“I told my father, ‘Pak, Google has a great meaning, because I hope Google can help many people, become a useful person to others,” Andi said.
