It’s not uncommon to donate old clothes that are still alright but just don’t fit anymore. But what about clothing items such as undergarments? Surely it’s not hygienic to recycle those?
Well, believe it or not… old bras can be recycled!
Lingerie store, Wacoal Malaysia, is running a campaign, fittingly called “Bra Recycle”. The campaign has been running for two months now starting 1 August. It’s part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative that aims to collect old or damaged bras.
The company will be providing free paper bags until 30 September at four outlets around the Klang Valley for participants to use for bringing in their old bras to the shops. Each bag can fit up to three bras.
The participating outlets are:
- Empire Shopping Gallery
- IOI City Mall
- Sunway Pyramid
- Sunway Velocity Mall
In appreciation for the contribution, Wacoal is also giving out gifts and vouchers to participants!
In case you were curious as to what exactly they want to do with the used bras… the pre-owned bras are collected and pre-processed to be used as refuse paper and plastic fuel (RPF)—fuel that’s more environmentally friendly and cheaper than coal! It’s a good way of reusing something that would just end up in the landfill eventually!

This isn’t the first time Wacoal is running such a campaign. They ran a similar one last year and approximately 18,000 old and damaged bras were collected for recycling. Amazing! For more info on the campaign, you can visit their website here!
Now, let’s do our part and give these people some old bras already!
