The past year has taken a toll on all of us as we’ve had to adjust to new normal of SOPs, staying home and working from home.

Without being at the office, it’s hard for employers to understand how their employees are doing during the pandemic.

One company however has come up with a device to solve that problem.

‘Moodbeam’ is a wristband that provides an alternative way to alert your bosses if you are unhappy while you work remotely.

The activity tracker-like wristband let’s weares log whether they’re happy or unhappy by pressing one of the two buttons on the wristband.

The wristband is linked to a mobile app and employers will be able to monitor their employees’ well being by having them press the yellow button if they’re happy and the blue button is they aren’t.

According to the device’s creators, the gadget was envisioned as a simple way for employers to check in on their employees remotely, even if they have large numbers of staff.

Speaking to the BBC, founder Christina Colmer McHugh shared that as attitudes towards mental wellness improves, “businesses are trying to get on top of staying connected with staff working from home. The idea behind Moodbeam is that now ‘they can ask 500 members: ‘You ok?’ without picking up the phone.”

Christina also shared that she campe up with the idea of the mood tracker as a way for her daughter to let her now when she was unhappy in school.

The devices are not just for employers, they are also available individually for those who are interested in looking for a simple way to monitor their own emotional wellbeing.

Many studies have shown that the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns have taken a massive toll on the world’s mental wellbeing.

Mind reported that 60% of adults shared that their mental health has gotten worse during this time with many not willing to speak up about their problems as they feel that their problems are not as big as other people’s.

Though it may be a little uncomfortable to keep your boss updated on whether you’re happy or not, the company has found that the simple yet personalised device has allowed employers to step in and help with situations they would otherwise be unaware of.
