With positive news like Malaysia’s number of COVID-19 cases declining recently, we’d like to share a bit more good news with you to put a smile on your face!
A couple of months ago, a pair of panda twins were born in China during the ongoing pandemic, and they were aptly named “safe” and “sound”!

The two baby pandas were brought into the world at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding and were named “Ping Ping” and “An An” which mean “safe” and “sound” respectively.
In a video relased by state broadcaster CCTV, the panda twins are seen resting in an incubator, where – like their namesake; they hope to bring a little hope to the world by growing big and strong.

Ping Ping and An An were born to, Fuwa the mother panda whose name translates to “lucky doll”; and she’s seen holding her little pink cubs and licking them with all the love and affection they deserve right after giving birth to them.
“This is the fifth time Fuwa has become a mother,” said Wu Kongju, a researcher at the center. “It is very rare for pandas to give birth in spring. She is turning 17 this year and now has eight babies.”
“It is also rare for Fuwa to show this much affection towards her babies,” Wu added. “We are very glad.”
When Ping Ping and An An were born, they weighed 159.8 grams and 119.5 grams respectively.
At one-month-old, the male twins weighed over one kilogram and 800 grams.
As can be seen in the video, the adorable baby pandas still have their eyes closed but don’t worry as panda cubs usually open their eyes for the first time when they are six to eight weeks old.
Ping Ping and An An are currently being given round-the-clock care by the research team who have been monitoring their temperatures daily. Fuwa is also receiving extra care with nutritious meals to help her recover from the labour.
