Westerners have been messing with our southeast Asian fruits lately, with the most recent rambutan being used as an alien fruit in a sci-fi series. Now westerners are tramatising our eyes once more with jackfruit!
Most Malaysians love eating nangka and its sweet flesh, we also cook the jackfruit seed sometimes! But in the now viral post, a Malaysian shows how the US grocery store, Whole Foods Market are selling jackfruits that are cut into slices like watermelons!
It’s obvious that the Americans do not know how to handle the fruit and even the seed can be seen cut in half along with the shell that’s wrapped in the plastic.
The post with the caption, “this is how Whole Foods cut up nangka (jackfruit). I don’t know whether to laugh or to cry #fail.”
Netizens are all giving the post an ultimate facepalm at the American grocery store’s ignorance that even the Malaysian-based British food host Rhys Williams are criticizing them.
The Guardian have also previously called nangka a “spectacularly ugly, smelly… pest plant” that people only eat “if they had nothing better to eat”, enraging many Malaysians and Asians alike.
Now all we wanna see is how these westerner actually eat the watermelon-sliced jackfruit…
Would you eat the nangka from the US grocery store? Let us know!
