We all know someone that always asks their friends to help them take attendance in class while they skip their classes but that situation might end real soon.

A lecturer from the School of Computing (SOC) in Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Dr. Noradila Nordin, is developing a facial recognition system called the Smart Attendance System to keep track of students' attendance!

Instead of the usual way of taking attendance with pen and paper, the system will automatically take the attendance of students by using a biometrics software to analyse their facial features.

The system will then match it with existing images in the database and teachers can track the attendance through a web app (but what about twins though?).
Students can also use their smartphones to track their location on campus in real-time!

While the project is still in the prototype phase, the system that Noradila has been developing along with her student, Nurul Husna Mohd Fauzi, has already won silver at the recent 2019 Innovative Research, Invention and Application Exhibition (I-RIA)!
Maybe they'll start having this system in the office to log employee’s check-in time too!

If you tend to skip class a lot, looks like ponteng class will no longer be an option anymore in the future!
