Yesterday, 377,141 homes in 512 areas were affected by a water disruption when the Sungai Semenyih Water Treatment Plant (LRA) was temporarily shut down due to contamination in Sungai Semenyih.

Those who have been affected by this disruption need not worry for long as service is expected to resume by 11am today.

However, according to Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas), this is not a fixed timing, as the situation would depend on the weather, flow of the river, as well as if the pollution issue itself has been resolved.

Water supply at the affected areas will be recovered in stages, depending on their respective locations and altitudes. The plant itself will take around three hours to stabilise its operations.

Syabas explained, “We expect water supply to recover in all areas 72 hours after the plant is fully operational.”

Due to a foul smell in the river, the Sungai Semenyih LRA was forced to cease operations at around 5pm yesterday. The source of the pollution was detected 16km away from the plant.

“The Selangor government’s enforcement agency has taken immediate action to stop the pollutant from entering the river,” Syabas noted yesterday.

Over 377,000 registered customers in Petaling, Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat and Sepang were affected by low pressure and water supply disruption following the incident.
