We’ve recently had a couple of magnificent sightings in the waters around Malaysia. A couple of weeks ago, a pod of dolphins were seen near the Penang bridge and before that, a whale shark’s carcass was found in Johor.
This time around, another whale shark was seen in Sarawak and thankfully, this one was still alive but it did need some help from a few fishermen.

During one of their fishing trips, a group of fishermen had a rather magical encounter with the rare marine creature.
The Malaysia Animal Association posted a video of the experience where the whale shark was spotted in waters off Bintulu, Sarawak.
According to the video’s caption, the shark had apparently swam up to the side of the boat and stayed around for a while. Upon closer inspection, the fishermen noticed that the large shark had a thick rope slung around it’s mid-section.
It seemed like the whale shark was pleading for help from the fishermen to set it free from its predicament.
In a clear case of marine pollution, the fishermen then proceeded to assist the animal by attempting to hook the rope with a long apparatus so as to guide the shark closer to the boat.
One of the men then reached down with a cleaver and quickly cut the rope and pulled it gently off the shark.
If you noticed at the end, as soon as the whale shark is freed, it flips its fin and seemingly says thank you and goodbye to the fishermen as it swims away happily.
While the fishermen definitely restore out faith in humanity, we can’t help but to feel saddened by the pollution that’s happening that caused this magnificent creature pain.
Hopefully this helps us to realize the consequences of our actions.
Share this with everyone you know so they’ll be aware too!
