Don't you hate it when you're all comfortable in bed and you're extremely tired, but you can't seem to fall asleep?

For bad sleepers everywhere, you can try out this sleeping method developed by the US Navy Pre-Flight School! This scientific method promises sleep in two minutes flat, even under the most stressful situations. According to sports performance book Relax and Win: Championship Performance by Lloyd Bud Winter, this tried-and-tested method can be broken down into four distinct steps:

#1 Relax your facial muscles, this includes your tongue, jaw and the six muscles surrounding your eye sockets. Don't squint or frown as the tension needs to leave your face.

#2 Draw your focus to your shoulders, dropping them down as far as they can go. Then, relax your upper and lower arms; first on one side, and then on the other.

#3 Breathe out, relax your chest.

#4 Finally, relax your legs, beginning with your thighs before moving down to your lower legs.

After completing these four steps, spend a good 10 seconds clearing the clutter of your mind. Lloyd suggests picturing one of these three mental images in particular:

  • Picture yourself lying in a canoe on a serene lake, with a blue sky above you.
  • Imagine yourself being cuddled up in a black velvet hammock inside a completely dark room.
  • Repeat "don't think, don't think, don't think" over and over for 10 seconds.
