Get your bidding game on, ladies and gentlemen. The ‘Malaysia’ series for car plate numbers are open for bidding from 1 August to 15 August. The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will be carrying out the bidding instead of third parties or NGOs so that all income generated will go into the government’s reserves, according to Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

He noted that JPJ was able to raise RM22 million from the sales of the F-series numbers alone.

The minimum bid for the ‘Malaysia 1’ to ‘Malaysia 10’ numbers will be RM10,000 while those who intend to own other special numbers such as from 11 to 19, double two to 9, triple one to nine and quadruple one to nine are required to make a minimum bid of RM2,000. The minimum bid for other popular numbers is RM300.

Successful bidders will have their named announced on 29 August, and can register their vehicles before Merdeka Day if they so wished. Loke also said that no numbers will be reserved for any individual, except ‘Malaysia 2020’ for none other than Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, assuming he’d like to take it.

At the launch at JPJ Seremban branch, Loke submitted a RM1,509 bid for ‘Malaysia 509’. The number is special as it signifies 9 May, the day Pakatan Harapan got to form the Federal Government, he said. “I hope though, that there’ll be a higher bid for the number.”

Those who wish to bid may register at the nearest JPJ office and start bidding online.

What are you waiting for? Bid your way to get an exclusive plate number (and help fund the government while you’re at it😉)!
