If you’ve always dreamed of visiting Russia, specifically St. Petersburg, now’s the time for you to do so! And, you can do it on a free E-visa!

Tourists and businesspeople from 53 countries around the world, including Malaysia, will now be able to travel to St. Petersburg on a simplified electronic visa beginning 1st October.
According to a presidential degree, the 30-day e-visa program will go into effect in St. Petersburg and the surrounding Leningrad region. Tourists will be able to stay in Russia for eight days out of the 30-day validity period.

As obtaining a visa to Russia has been always been difficult for tourists around the world, potential visitors to the country can now simply apply for the e-visa on the Russian Foreign Ministry website no later than four days before their arrival.
Those applying for an e-visa will not be charged a consular fee that usually costs 65 euros (RM298).

The other 52 countries eligible for the free e-visa include Bahrain, India, Indonesia, Iran, Qatar, China, Kuwait, Mexico, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, Turkey, the Phillipines, Japan, and more.
President Vladimir Putin’s new order is expected to attract 12 million tourists each year, up from the 8.2 million who visited St. Petersburg last year.
The e-visa initiative by the president has been put in place in an attempt to fulfill his promise to collect $15.5 billion (RM64 billion) in annual tourism revenue by the end of his presidential term in 2024.
