Before you panic, Jensen Ackles is NOT leaving Supernatural. Season 14 of the series is returning in October but fans have to be prepared for a major change. Dean will be absent for a good chunk of the upcoming season.

As we saw in the Season 13 finale, Dean was betrayed by Michael, the archangel who took over his body, thus ending Dean's character (for now). So, although it may look like Dean is around this season, it'll be a very different character altogether.

The show has always been about the relationship between the Winchester brothers, Sam and Dean, and this twist has left fans with a lot of questions for the next season and presented the writers with an interesting challenge.

Showrunner, Andrew Dabb, discussed the difficulties of losing "one of the pillars of the show," with TV Line. He admitted that most of the series has been built around "Sam and Dean, and their interplay". "It's challenging to write episodes without Dean Winchester in them, because he is such a fundamental part of the show," Andrew added. "But it's also exciting [for] Jensen and us [to have] the opportunity to play around with this new character."

"The hardest thing about a show like this, sometimes, is every year, you have to create the new big bad," Andrew explained. "You have to build that character. You have to build that actor to find a comfort level with the show and everything else."

"With Jensen playing Michael, there's none of that. This is an actor who everyone loves, who knows exactly what the show is, who knows exactly who he is, who knows exactly [and] very smartly how to approach this character. So, it's really given us, like instantly, a great bad guy, which is kind of obvious, but it's something where you're like, 'Oh, wow, that's really, really cool'," Andrew went on to say.

So, are you excited for Supernatural Season 14?
