Ana Huang is opening up about the much-anticipated Netflix adaptation of her hit Twisted romance book series — and what fans can expect when it comes to casting. In a new episode of the podcast I’ve Never Said This Before with Tommy DiDario, debuting Tuesday, the Twisted Love author shares early updates on the upcoming series and her vision for bringing the beloved characters to life on screen.

“We’re still in the early stages of casting, but I’ve had a lot of conversations with the Netflix team — and they’ve been great collaborators,” Huang tells DiDario. “Of course, we want actors who look like the characters. But it’s a romance series, so the most important thing to me is chemistry.”

Huang also revealed that there’s strong consideration being given to casting “fresh faces” — something she believes could bring a new spark to the story.

Netflix acquired the rights to the Twisted series — which includes Twisted Love, Twisted Games, Twisted Hate, and Twisted Lies — in a seven-figure deal, as first reported by Variety in January. The books, which have exploded in popularity on TikTok, have sold over 12 million copies to date.

Huang admits she’s felt the weight of fan expectations — especially when it comes to casting choices.

“My fans are passionate and excited, but they also have a lot of ideas about who should play whom,” she says. “I want to stay true to the heart of the story, but I also understand things have to shift when it’s adapted for TV.”

With so much speculation swirling online, Huang is quick to clarify that no roles have been officially filled — yet.

“There are so many rumors. Every couple of months, a new one pops up,” she says. “But unless it’s announced on my official channels, nothing is confirmed.”

As for what’s next in the Twisted literary universe, Huang isn’t closing the book just yet. While the series wrapped with Twisted Lies in 2022, she hinted at the possibility of returning to the world in a future project.

“I don’t want to promise anything,” she says. “But I won’t say no. If I do revisit it, it would probably be in the form of an epilogue novel.”
