Ariana Grande, holding back tears, opened up about the emotional toll of body-shaming, highlighting that it’s a difficult topic to confront, whether you’re in the spotlight or not.

The Wicked star reflected on her experience of living under intense scrutiny since her teenage years. "I’ve been doing this in front of the public, kind of like a specimen in a petri dish, since I was 16 or 17," the 31-year-old said, her voice breaking. "I’ve heard it all—every version of what’s wrong with me. And then you fix it, and suddenly it’s wrong for different reasons."

Ariana, who faced online chatter about her appearance during the Wicked press tour, emphasized that body-shaming is an issue that transcends fame. "Even if you’re not in the public eye, it happens," she noted. "It could be at Thanksgiving dinner, where someone’s grandma says, ‘Oh my god, you look skinnier, what happened?’ or, ‘You look heavier, what happened?’ It’s uncomfortable and horrible no matter where it’s happening."

The singer called out society’s casual attitude toward commenting on others' bodies, describing it as a dangerous norm. "There’s a comfort people feel in saying those things that I think is really harmful," she explained. "And it’s dangerous for everyone involved."

Despite the negativity, Ariana expressed gratitude for her strong support system and shared how she’s learned to protect herself from harmful commentary. "I don’t invite it in anymore," she said, encouraging others to do the same. "However you can protect yourself—whether it’s at a family reunion or online—keep yourself safe. No one has the right to say anything about your body."

This isn’t the first time Ariana has spoken out against body-shaming. Earlier in 2023, she addressed fans on TikTok, explaining that past comparisons to her "healthiest" appearance were actually tied to one of the unhealthiest periods of her life.

"I was on a lot of antidepressants, drinking on them, eating poorly, and at the lowest point of my life when I looked the way you consider ‘healthy,’" she revealed. "But that wasn’t my ‘healthy.’"

Ariana reminded her followers that everyone’s version of health looks different and emphasized the importance of self-acceptance. Through her vulnerability, Ariana hopes to inspire others to focus on self-care and reject harmful societal standards.
