Ariana Grande is setting the record straight on her vocal tone.
The Wicked star—who earned an Oscar nomination for her role as Glinda—recently addressed criticism over her higher-pitched speaking voice, explaining it’s both natural and a technique to protect her vocal health.

“If I have a long press day or need to sing, I'll place my voice a little higher to preserve it,” Ariana shared on the SmartLess podcast. “It’s a normal thing for vocalists, but people still question if it's my real voice. It is—all of them are.”
The 31-year-old previously clapped back at online critics who scrutinise her Wicked voice, but she’s learned the speculation never truly stops.
“I've explained it so many times,” she said. “But people still ask, ‘Where’s your real voice?’”

Despite the chatter, Ariana embraces the vocal shifts that came with playing Glinda, even suggesting they may stick around.
“Some things won’t fade away,” she told Variety in January. “And I’m grateful for the pieces that will stay with me forever.”
