The pillars beneath the SS15 LRT station in Subang Jaya have been given a stunning makeover, thanks to a series of vibrant murals that have captured the attention of the public. A Reddit user recently shared a photo of one of the massive paintings, sparking curiosity and praise for the artists behind the project. The murals are part of the 'Sang Seni SS15' initiative, a collaborative effort by Rapid KL and the Subang Jaya State Assemblywoman's office. In a Facebook post, Rapid KL shared that the project began on 20 December 2024.
"This first project of its kind showcases the artwork of local artists around Rapid KL public transportation," the post stated. "Each mural carries a unique theme, full of creativity and inspiration. In addition to beautifying the environment, the murals will hopefully improve the image of Subang Jaya, especially SS15."
Subang Jaya State Assemblywoman Michelle Ng explained the inspiration behind the project: “These pillars used to have graffiti all over them, which was not very pleasant and personally annoyed me to no end. We, however, saw this as an opportunity." Ng shared that the murals were curated to not only beautify SS15 but also to celebrate local artists. "SS15 has always been a trend-setter: from hosting the café scene to the bubble tea street, and now Chinese hot pot. It made sense for us to pilot this project here," she said, adding that FitLine co-sponsored the initiative.
When asked about future plans, Ng expressed interest in expanding the project to other parts of Subang Jaya, such as Taipan, depending on discussions with Prasarana and other stakeholders. The initiative has garnered widespread praise from the community. The project had been officiated by Subang Jaya State Assemblywoman Michelle Ng on January 15.
Social media users expressed admiration for the murals, with one Facebook commenter saying, "Interesting. I've driven past here a couple of times and saw the artists still completing their paintings into the night. There's also a beautiful tiger painting on one of the pillars."
Many agreed that the murals are a welcome improvement. "It’s better to have murals than graffiti on these pillars. Well done to Rapid KL and the Subang Jaya ADUN," another user wrote. Others highlighted the talent of local artists, with one Reddit user commenting, "Malaysians do have some serious talent in mural arts. Let it be encouraged. We want more good murals, not vandalism."
With their vibrant themes and creative designs, the murals have not only brightened up the SS15 area but also brought attention to the incredible talent of local artists, making this project a celebrated addition to the community.
