Aubrey Plaza has stepped away from social media following the tragic death of her husband, Jeff Baena. The 40-year-old actress deactivated her Instagram account over a week after the death of her husband Jeff Baena at the age of 47 years old. Attempts to visit her profile now lead to a page that states, “Sorry, this page isn't available. The link you followed may be broken, or the page may have been removed.”
In a statement to Entertainment Weekly, Plaza and Baena’s family described his death as “an unimaginable tragedy” and expressed their gratitude for the support they’ve received. They also requested privacy during this difficult time.
Plaza and Baena, who began dating in 2011, were married in a private ceremony, which Plaza confirmed in a now-deleted Instagram post in 2021. Although they kept their relationship largely private, the couple frequently collaborated professionally. Plaza starred in Baena’s 2014 directorial debut Life After Beth, as well as in Joshy (2016), The Little Hours (2017), and Spin Me Round (2022). She also made her directorial debut with Baena’s 2021 anthology series Cinema Toast.
In the wake of Baena’s death, several of his close friends, including Alison Brie, Molly Shannon, Adam Pally, and Jake Johnson, paid tribute to the late filmmaker on social media. Director Alex Ross Perry shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, remembering Baena for his unique ideas and creative spirit. “I loved all of the ideas he had been telling me about upcoming movies and stories he wanted to make and share,” Perry wrote. “They were weird. They were unusual. And they were typical Jeff.”
Baena is survived by Plaza, his mother Barbara Stern, stepfather Roger Stern, father Scott Baena, stepmother Michele Baena, brother Brad Baena, stepsister Gabay Fluxman, and step-brother Jed Fluxman.
